Happy Birthday Eleanor Mae. December 28, 2008

Today was Ellie’s 2nd birthday.  Two years ago today Eleanor Mae Dickson joined our family weighing a ridiculous 9 lbs. 12 oz. and 22 inches long, and it was just under two years ago that I didn’t believe that I would make it to this day.  I was sure that she would drive me incurably mad.  But alas she didn’t, and thanks to some wonderful anti-depressants, today I am just fine.  This year we did the same thing for her birthday that we did last year.  I don’t know if we are starting a tradition, I guess only time will tell.  Joined by our friends the Huttons, minus Mike, we went to the Aquarium of the Pacific and then to Bubba Gump’s where Ellie got a birthday song sung to her and ice cream all over herself.  So much ice cream in fact that even after cleaning her up Keith and I still cringed at the thought of having to carry her because her clothes were so wet and sticky.  In her two short years Ellie has discovered that some of her favorite things are princesses, juice, soup, tickling people, making faces, shoes, screaming loudly, and lying by saying “No” when we have asked her if she has pooped in her diaper.  In honor of this oh so special day I thought that I would share with you an absurd number of my favorite Ellie pics.

Some Of Ellie’s Christmas Goodies. December 27, 2008

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.  I know i did, because I got to sleep in AND take a nap.  Those are the best days ever.  Christmas morning Keith was the first one up so that he could make us breakfast.  Then I got up, then finally The Bean.  It was so fun to watch her open presents, even though it was pretty time consuming and it did take all day because we had to take a couple of breaks due to her being overwhelmed by all the new stuff to play with.  We also got to have diner with our friend Chris who bought Ellie more princess dresses.  Here are the pics.

Docu-Overload. December 23, 2008

Over the past few days, Keith and I have been taking advantage of the joy that is instant movie watching on Netflix.  For those of you who don’t already know, if you have certain, actually most Netflix plans you can instantly watch movies on your computer at any time.  Not all movies are available to watch this way, but I will tell you one thing, there are a TON of documentaries that are.  In the past few days, Keith and I either separately or together have watched more documentaries than I think I have watched in my life.  When we watch them together usually there has to be some compromise.  Mostly on my part, because I always seem to want to watch the ones about serial killers…Keith doesn’t find those ones interesting.  Here is a little list of the documentaries we have watched recently, pretty much all of which I would recommend to anyone.  Except for Helvetica, Keith watched that one while I was sleeping and I just don’t see how a movie about fonts could be that interesting.

1.  Shut Up & Sing – I have a very well hidden, not so well hidden anymore, obsession with the Dixie Chicks.  It is so well hidden that I don’t own a single album.

2.  The Business of Being Born – I thought this one was interesting, especially since my sister in law just had a baby at home with a midwife.  Then again, I also really like the idea of being at the hospital where the drugs are, and the people to clean up all the baby goo once the delivery is over.

3.  Helvetica – Ummmmm, it’s a movie about a font.  Enough said.

4.  Surfwise – Two adults and their 9, count ’em, NINE kids live in a camper and surf everyday.  Oh, and the kids never go to school.

5.  The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters – Billy Mitchell is a big Doodie Head.

6.  Who The #$&% Is Jackson Pollock? – Why would anyone pay this woman $50 million for something that I could do in an afternoon?  Just kidding, I know who the #$&% Jackson Pollock is.

Nothing Says “Merry Christmas” Like A Scantily Clad Mariah Carey. December 22, 2008

I have to say, hands down this is my absolute favorite Christmas song.  I’m sure that our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ would be happy to know that the music I love to hear the most around the time of His birth is this.

Ellie’s Favorite New Toy.

Thanks to Selina, Ellie has become obsessed with her brand new baby and car seat.  It turns out that Ellie loves to rock the babies in the car seats, or just the car seats themselves in the nursery.  Selina said that she saw this toy and had to get it for Ellie so that she could bring it with her when she moves into the bigger kid class at church next week.  Ellie-bean gets very concerned when the baby falls out of the seat, which is quite often due to the fact that most of the time that the seat is being carried the baby is hanging half way out of it.  Tonight as she was getting in my lap to read a story, she stopped and said, “Oh, baby”.  As if to let me know that we needed to wait because she had forgotten her baby and had to get her before the story time could begin.  I wonder if this is training her to be a good big sister?  Well if it is, she will have to practice for a lot longer before Mommy and Daddy make her one.

The Bean Is Sick-Day 2. December 19, 2008

Is she not the saddest looking thing ever?  She pretty much has not detached herself from me all day.  This is what it must feel like to be a siamese twin.  The fever went away for a little bit, but now it’s back.  Still not much eating or drinking, but lots and lots of movies.  And snot.

The Bean Is Sick. December 18, 2008

If you are a parent then you know that there is nothing sadder than a sick child.  This morning Keith and I were getting ready for work and he offered to help me get out the door with Ellie-Bean.  I asked if he could get her dressed, and when we went in to get her up she started coughing, didn’t want to get out of bed, and she looked awful.  Being the mean parent that I am I figure that if she is not vomiting then she is well enough to go to daycare.  Keith however is the logical one who immediately said that there was no way she was going to go.  He stayed home with her all day, and even ended up taking her to the doctor when her fever went up and she was listless. It turns out that she has an ear infection…again, and might have strep throat but the doctor wasn’t sure because Ellie wouldn’t open her mouth.  We’ve been trying to give her fluids, but she doesn’t want to drink anything and right now she is asleep as she has been for most of the day.  I got my shift covered tomorrow so that I could be on baby watch.  I have a great night of waking up every four hours to check her temperature and trying to give her more Motrin ahead of me.  Please pray for The Bean.
