I Ruined His Surprise, But I Met A Blogging Icon. April 2, 2009

Last week while I was cleaning house like the awesome wife I am, I noticed that Keith had received a package from Amazon.  I really wasn’t too interested in the contents of the box, however since I was on a cleaning rampage I opened it so that I could throw away the box and therefore further de-clutter my house.  Inside was a book entitled It Sucked and Then I Cried: How I Had a Baby, a Breakdown, and a Much Needed Margarita, by super blogger Heather B. Armstrong author of Dooce.com.  Judging by the response that I got last time she was here doing a book signing and I asked if anyone wanted to go with me and no one was interested, I’m willing to bet that most of you have no idea who on Earth I am talking about, but I will go on anyway.  So I opened up the box and immediately called Keith and said, “You got a package from Amazon, and I opened it, and I don’t think I was supposed to”.  He said that I was right, and I wasn’t supposed to, and that I needed to put the book back in the box and put it away.  I thought he was joking, but he was serious.  It turns out that my awesome, super hot husband was planning to surprise me with the book and take me to Book Soup in Hollywood tonight to Heather Armstrong’s book signing.  Even though I ruined his surprise Keith took me anyway.  We had a lovely meal in the car courtesy of McDonald’s , which would have been something better had I not just gotten off work and felt like my insides were eating each other and needed to be fed something immediately.  I am not a nice person when I am hungry.  The we went out to Hollywood where we listened to Heather read excerpts from her book, and then stood in line to have my copy signed.  While we were waiting a woman came around and asked everyone their names so that she could write it on a post-it on the inside page.  This way when you got to the front of the line Heather could just open up the page and see how your name should be spelled, which is a great thing for people like me who have names that are spelled as if they could be from a foreign country.  When we got to the front and she saw my name she said, “How do you say your name”?  Of course.  When I told her she said, “That’s pretty”.  Maybe she will name her next child after me.  I was very proud of myself for not saying anything embarrassing, and Keith made sure to prep me by telling me not to try to create a fictional bond with this woman that I don’t know by sharing any slight similarities we might have like…we are both tall…we both have blogs…we both went crazy after having a child…we both hate Crocs…we both married hot, hot geeks…and so on.  I did however get a picture with Ms. Armstrong which I am going to proudly display on my blog of course, and not expect anyone else to be as excited about it as I am.

First Movie…No Problem. April 1, 2009

For quite a while now I have been telling Keith that I wanted to take Ellie to a movie.  Every time I mention it Keith has this look like I am telling him it’s time to go to the doctor, which those of you men over 30 know is not fun due to the possible probing that may take place.  A couple of weeks ago while the TV was on the preview for Monsters vs. Aliens came on.  Ellie looked at the television and said, “I wanna see that movie”, so today was the day.  Keith and I both had today off, so I decided we would go to a matinee because it would be cheeper, if you consider $9.25 per person cheep.  At least Ellie was free.  I had packed some snacks for her, but I forgot a drink or even a cup, so when we got to the theater we bought her the smallest size fruit punch they had which had to have been at least 20 oz.  When the guy put it up on the counter Keith actually asked if that was really the smallest size they had.  It was.  Good thing I changed Ellie’s diaper right before the movie.  We went inside the theater and got our seats.  In all other than us there were probably only about eight other people in the theater which was good news for us since we didn’t know if Ellie was going to loose her mind or not.  She sat through the movie in a trance like state, and only once in the middle said that she didn’t want to watch anymore.  When the movie was over, and we were eating lunch, Ellie said, “I wanna watch the movie again”, to which Keith said that we could just send her in by herself since she is free.
