Thanks to my husband and his inability to follow a grocery list, we were able to have our own little St. Patrick’s Day party.

You May Not Want To Trust Me With Your Children. March 16, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — lianadickson @ 9:49 pm

Yesterday we went to Disneyland with our friends the Hutton’s, who happened to be watching the two children of another friend of ours.  All together there were four adults, and five children, which meant that this was the first time that the Dickson/Hutton adults were outnumbered by wee ones.  The day was pretty fun, and the parents of the other kids ended up showing up at the end of the night just in time to have dinner and then go home.  Since we had driven these children not belonging to us to the park, we had to take them back to our cars so their parents could meet us and transfer their car seats back to their car.  On the way there Kaelyn (good Lord I hope I spelled that right because I know she would be upset), who is five was telling me about how tired she was and how she didn’t want to have to take a bath when she got home, and instead she just wanted to go to bed.  Instantly I flashed back to my childhood, and how I remember getting out of things that I didn’t want to do.  I said to her, “Do you want to know how to get out of taking a shower?”  Her eyes got really big and she said “YES!”  I told her that when she got in the car that she should fall asleep, or pretend to be asleep.  Then when she got home she had to pretend that she couldn’t wake up.  I told her, “if you are asleep, they can’t make you take a shower, right?”  I’m pretty sure I remember this trick getting me out of going to summer daycare when I was a kid, and instead I got to spend the day at my grandparents house watching “The Brady Bunch” and “Punky Brewster”.  Kaelyn was super excited about this new found knowledge, and I did make sure to tell her that she couldn’t do this everyday, because then she might start to smell, and you never want to be the “smelly kid” at school.  That’s almost as bad as being the kid that eats his own boogers.  When we got to the parking lot and met her parents, Kaelyn looked at me and whispered, “I won’t tell them what you told me”.  That right there did it.  I couldn’t let this child lie to her parents, worse yet I couldn’t run the risk of her not being a good enough liar and then ratting me out to her parents.  So, I ended up telling them what I had taught their innocent little being.  Their response was to laugh and say that she never would have gotten away with it anyway, because she is an awful liar.  Maybe I will actually follow through with my next child corruption.

Oh The Ways People Find Me. March 13, 2009

I have discussed previously how one of my earliest posts about Dancing With The Stars and George Hamilton gets my blog more views than anything else I have ever written about.  I just wanted to take a brief moment to let you all know that today someone found my blog by searching “look at me under the sheets naked”.  I’m not exactly sure that my blog gave them what they were looking for, but I’m interested to know what post of mine came up.  I also think it’s a little funny/scary/interesting/disturbing that someone came across my blog by searching for one of my friends naked.  The search actually stated ” _____ _____ naked”.  I left out the person’s name because I know that if they knew that someone was looking for naked pictures of them they would flip out.  In fact, the only person that I even told about this inquiry was Keith, who when I mentioned it again tonight said that I had never told him this info and was completely surprised.  By the way, don’t bother asking either of us if you were the one being searched for in the buff, we will never tell.  Oh, and out of curiosity I searched the same thing, and the mystery person can relax, there was nothing to be found.

I Used To Never Get Sick. March 12, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — lianadickson @ 8:25 pm

My life was a lot different before I had a child.  I used to sleep in, I used to spend a lot of money on myself, and I used to never get sick.  Ok, I guess I can’t say that I never got sick, but I rarely ever got sick.  Since having Ellie, and especially since she has been going to daycare, which is most of her life, I have gotten sick more times than I think I ever have in my life.  I can only imagine that this must be what it’s like to be a first grade teacher.  I always hear about how sick teachers are from all the snotty little hands touching them.  Almost two weeks ago Ellie got sick and she transferred it to me.  For two days last week I could barely get off the couch I felt so awful.  Just as I thought I had kicked that awful thing, today Keith calls me to tell me that he got half way to work and had to turn around because he was sick with some of the same symptoms I had.  Then, as I was driving home I started to have an awful headache, and sore throat.  Is it possible for the same cold to get me twice?  I am stocking up on the Airborne with the hope that I can kick this cold before it starts.

As I Promised. March 11, 2009

I feel this video needs a little background explanation.  Currently our church is doing a series called I Love the 80’s, the Love being represented by a heart shape of course.  Every week the worship team is doing an 80’s cover song, so that we can all relive our youth.  Not so much my youth, but the youth’s of others slightly older than me.  Two weeks ago they did “Don’t Stop Believin” by Journey, and last week they did “Material Girl” by Madonna.  At the beginning of the service the very talented Jessie Pawling sang the song, but due to clothing restraints asked to not have to sing it again at the end.  This is where my husband stepped in.  As the service came to an end, and everyone was filing out of the room, the band started playing “Material Girl” once again.  As you will see in the video, no one seems to pay much attention until the voice comes out, at which point several people stop and stare.  One person with an exceptionally crazy husband said to me, “I will say to you the same thing that I hear 16 times a day, ‘That is your husband’”.  I actually turned around and went back in so that I could hear the rest of the song that the band continued to play well after most people had left.  At the end it was pretty much just the sound guys, the people tearing down, and myself…oh and Lori and Dominic.  The first verse is a little scary, but the song gets better as you listen.  My husband is awesome, and I’m sure that he is so incredibly happy that I have posted this on my blog so that even more people can enjoy it.  If you ask nicely he may rock your wedding of other social event for a nominal fee.

Wait For Tomorrow. March 10, 2009

I am done with being sick, which I was by the way for most of last week, and I am ready to get back to blogging on a regular basis.  Maybe even everyday like I used to be so good about.  Right now however I am exhausted.  I do however promise a fabulous video of my husband, that I know he wishes I would stop playing, will be posted on my blog.  I am mainly going to do it for those of you who do not go to Revolution, or are not my Facebook friends.  So that would pretty much be my mom and the Wilbanks’s.  See you tomorrow.

I heard this song the other day.  It’s been a long time, and I didn’t know what he was saying back then either.

This Is Why I Do The Grocery Shopping. March 6, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — lianadickson @ 9:12 pm

Last night Keith went to the grocery store with a list, a very limited list.  On that list was tea, honey, frozen waffles and beer.  Random I know, but it was all stuff we “needed” at the time.  By the time he got back my amazing husband had managed to spend $70.  He did get the stuff on his list, however he also got Cracked Pepper & Olive Oil Triscuit’s, which are delicious so I was fine with that, Pringles, candy, party snack mix, more candy, four frozen pizzas, because “they were only $.79 Babe”, a Guiness Party Pack that includes two cans of Guinness and two Guinness glasses, “because St. Patrick’s Day is coming”, and finally more candy.  I know for a fact that I am not the only wife with a husband who is capable of such things, in fact I have witnessed first hand how that husband of a very good friend of mine can go to the store and manage to come back having spent $100 and only have drinks and Dorritos, but he does come back with A LOT of drinks.  Ladies, are there any more of you out there who have husbands like this?  I guess I shouldn’t complain too much, Keith does occasionally offer to do the grocery shopping for me which means that he has to follow my detailed list involving lots of coupons, and he doesn’t complain about sticking to the list then.  This was just a lesson in what happens when you send a hungry husband to the store.

Grandma’s Visit. March 1, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — lianadickson @ 11:03 am

My mom came to visit this week, and while I know she loves me and enjoys spending time with me, lets face it she really comes to see and spoil Ellie.  Days one and two of the visit consisted mostly of shopping for a new wardrobe for The Bean.  Thanks to my mom and Keith’s parents we rarely have to buy Ellie any clothes, which is AWESOME.  On day three my mom offered to watch Ellie so that Keith and I could go out to dinner, just the two of us.  We had a great night, and considered going to a movie, but both said that we would probably fall asleep in the middle of it.  Obviously our wild nights of staying up late are over, I mean I am going to be 30 next month.  On the last day, yesterday, Ellie came down with a nasty cold, oh and by the way she woke up with pink eye on Friday for the fifth time.  So Saturday we spent most of the day at home except for going out for frozen yogurt for lunch, which I know is not a nutritionally sound choice for a two year old’s lunch, but it did make her fever go down, and it’s better than the time that I let her eat frozen corn kernels for dinner, because that was what she wanted.  Saturday night we went to dinner, which Ellie barely survived.  By the time we got home she was asking to be put to bed.  Since our place is tiny, when she visits my mom sleeps in Ellie’s room and Ellie sleeps in her pack n’ play in our room.  No big deal except that when she is sick Ellie snores like a 600 lb. man.  I actually had to cover my head with another pillow just to drown out the noise and get some sleep.  In all it was a good visit, and I love having my mom come hang out, but I am happy that now I get to go back to going to the bathroom and not having to close the door.
