I have been so engulfed by the Olympics and hanging out with friends that I have actually forgotten to blog for the last couple of days. I had the whole weekend off from work because Keith was supposed to go to a bachelor party in Vegas that he decided not to go to at the last minute which meant that we to have a fun family weekend. On Saturdays Keith normally takes Ellie to parent and me swim lessons, but since he was going to be gone I was going to take her. We all ended up driving out to the pool and getting out and waiting for the class to start. Well, about 10 minutes before the class was supposed to start our friends the Huttons called and asked if we wanted to go swimming with them at Beth’s aunt’s pool. Since swimming with friends is always more fun than swimming with strangers we said yes. Plus, I wasn’t as worried about the Huttons seeing me in my swimsuit as I was about total strangers. Ellie didn’t really understand what was going on and she got a little mad because to her we were taking her to the park, showing her the awesome pool, talking about how fun it would be to swim in it, and then getting back in the car. I’m sure she thought we were jerks, but I’m also sure it wasn’t the first time. She was much better once she saw her best friends Drew and Jack, and realized we would be spending the day with them. At the pool we spent a lot of time trying to get Ellie to kick her legs and blow bubbles, neither of which she did. But then again she didn’t poop in the pool either, so I guess that was really all we could ask for.

On this day she decided that she didn't like Dad very much. I told him not to worry because she goes through phases and I was pretty sure that in a couple of days she would love him again and be disgusted with me.

I'm trying to figure out how to make these things work. You can tell that I am thinking really hard due to the severe slanting of my eyebrows.
After swimming we had dinner at the Huttons where Mike slaved for four hours to create a fabulous Salmon dish with something on it that he kept referring to as his “essence”. I didn’t ask any questions. It tasted good and that was all that mattered. I also got to see Ellie play with Jack longer than I think I have ever seen her give him her attention in their lives. She didn’t even seem to mind that Jack took a shovel full of sand and poured it on her head. It was probably just because Drew had a friend over so she was trying to make him jealous.
The next day we went to Disneyland where it was just slightly cooler than the surface of the sun. Nothing makes a hot day worse than a child who wants to be carried, then not carried, then carried, then not carried, you get the picture. We met up with our friends the Gaws and watched a parade which happened to be Ellie’s first. Most of the time was spent with her mouth wide open. Once she got over the initial amazement of what was happening before her eyes she started waving at the characters. Then it happened…the princesses came out. And if that wasn’t enough, Mickey and Minnie came out after them. I thought my child was going to chase them down the street, and she actually would have had I not been holding on to the back of her. Overall, a hot, sweaty, great weekend.
